Homecoming week has come and gone again. This year's HoCo spirit week, which took place Oct. 9-13, was cut short as Clayton Valley had no school Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday was college bound day. The students could dress up in their college attire. The freshmen went to local college visits, the sophomores took the PACT, the juniors took the PSAT, and the seniors had college prep workshops. Thursday was Greek life day. People dressed up in sorority or fraternity attire. Friday was class colors along with the final HoCo rally during the day.
The Homecoming Parade took place Oct. 12 in downtown Clayton at The Grove. This was the first year the tradition was brought back due to COVID. The parade included many different floats coming from various clubs and sports that Clayton Valley has to offer.
Some clubs that showed up were the Senior Men, Senior Women, and the AAPI club. A few of the sports teams that participated were the girls’ flag football, girls’ tennis, baseball, and dance teams. Two highlights were the flag football team throwing out mini footballs to the crowd and the Senior Women having a pink fire truck as part of their float.
To wrap up the school week, the homecoming rally took place Friday. The rally happened during 4th period in the big gym. Our school's rally commissioners, ASB, and renaissance leadership prepared a well-organized event. The fall sport captains were presented and the football seniors said goodbye with their walkouts. The cheer team performed their homecoming routine and said farewell to their seniors as well. Lastly the show choir and drama performed a part of their upcoming performance.
The yearly homecoming game on Friday the 13th produced the Eagles’ first win at home, a 41-29 victory over the Foothill Falcons. Before the game, the homecoming royalty were crowned from each grade level. Our senior king and queen for 2023 were Ane Alatini and Fernando Perez.
The student section was packed and that evening's game theme was “USA.” The students, cheer team, and marching band were all full of energy.
The Eagles started the game strong in the first quarter, scoring two touchdowns in the first five minutes. They later got another touchdown, ending the first quarter 21-0. Second quarter they kept their effort up and scored another touchdown 5 seconds into the quarter. Foothill would then score one touchdown, and it was 28-7 at halftime.
The Eagles were playing confidently in the third quarter as they scored another touchdown. Later, the Falcons would score another touchdown and made their field goal. In the last quarter both teams scored two touchdowns, ending the game with an Ugly win of 41-29.
The finale to Clayton Valley’s homecoming week was the homecoming dance at the Concord Pavilion. The theme was “Under the Stars." It took place on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. There were photo booths, many arcade games, food trucks, and an awesome DJ.
Students were lined up early to get into the dance as there was such a high show up from the school. It was a successful night as people had fun dancing, hanging out, and playing games. There was something for everyone to enjoy the night.
