Early in the new year, CVCHS hosted an Open House & Showcase to welcome the incoming Class of 2029. Teachers, staff, and students in leadership positions came together in order to promote the abundance of classes, clubs, and extracurricular activities that CVCHS has to offer.

Kathleen Coakley, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and Program Director Sarah Lovick worked together on January 29, 2025, to create an educational and inspiring evening for incoming CVCHS students. With the help of many leadership organizations such as ASB and Link Crew, the Open House was sure to be a hit for the incoming students.

Link Leader Audrey Cleary volunteered at the Open House & Showcase, directing new students and parents around the campus. She detailed her perspective on how the open house went, as well as the benefits incoming students could reap from the experience.

“Incoming freshmen can benefit from the open house in that they are able to get a feel for the school and what it would be like to go to Clayton Valley,” said Cleary. “Freshmen can ask the link leaders any questions or concerns about Clayton Valley so that they can feel better about what school will be like. The link leaders answering these questions for the freshman in turn can make them feel more comfortable about the transition into high school, putting them more at ease.”

From the PE department and the gym to the calculus rooms in J wing, the doors of most classrooms were open, with teachers showcasing their classes and the work students had done. The academies also left their mark on incoming students, introducing incoming freshmen to the programs that make CVCHS so unique. One of the major showcases at the open house was the Engineering Academy, allowing many incoming freshmen to explore what the academy has to offer, as well as get a glimpse of what activities they would participate in if they joined the academy.

Jack Buechter, a CVCHS junior, helped direct and show incoming freshmen the Engineering Academy, inspiring them to join and participate in the numerous activities the academy offered. Buechter noted how the open house went, as well as the incoming students' response to the academy.

“I thought the freshmen seemed intrigued by the engineering academy,” said Buechter. “We got a lot of freshmen visiting the engineering room. My favorite part of the engineering academy is the chance to meet other nerds who then became my friends who I work with on engineering projects.”

Through the numerous resources and activities displayed at the Open House & Showcase, hundreds of students were able to gain confidence and knowledge as to what CVCHS offers. Incoming freshman Jonathan Keller commented on his impression of the open house, and his eagerness to explore the various opportunities CVCHS has to offer.

“I really enjoyed the open house. Everyone there was super helpful and gave detailed information related to their fields of expertise,” said Keller. “My favorite part of the open house was the robotics and engineering room. The students and faculty there were extremely kind, and they let students drive robots and explore the classroom.”

With an abundance of activities and opportunities displayed at the open house, the incoming Class of 2029 is sure to be eager to begin their high school journey.
