Ever heard of a lapathon where you are more focused on having fun than the actual walking part of it? That is Band on the Run for you!
Band on the Run is an exciting annual event with the goal of supporting the band in all their musical endeavors each season. It’s their main fundraiser, and allows them to attend all of their competitions. This year, Band on the Run will take place on Saturday, September 30, at 6 p.m. at the track. There is an entry fee of $10 which gives access to dinner, raffle tickets for every four laps completed, and a grab bag. Band on the Run is also open to the public.
“Anyone is welcome to participate and in fact the band encourages other people to join in,” remarked 11th grader Eliot Rentner, Assistant Drum Major of the CV Marching Band.
“Feel free to bring anyone, your family, friends, teachers, even your next door neighbors”, said Color Guard Captain Sarita Davalos. “The hours seem long but the time goes by quick [sic]. You are enjoying it because you are with your friends and having fun, not focusing on walking for three hours.”
Senior Maryrose Gonzales, is the Color Guard Drill Leader in the Marching Band. She believes Band On the Run is totally worth the cost, because “even though it's 10 dollars, there is a chance to win something higher in value,” through the raffles.
The prizes won from the raffles surprised Rentner her first year as they were so cool.
Last year, this fundraiser enabled the Marching Band to go to all five of their competitions.
“I think it is a success because it helps with the finances and helps the band grow closer together,” said Rentner.
All in all, Band on the Run is a great way to show support for the Clayton Valley Marching Band. It has been a huge success continually for the band each year and is hoped to maintain that success this year. This success has only been possible thanks to everyone who comes out to support the band each year.
