CV Choirs Set to Kick off Holidays with Upcoming Winter Concert

Lian Blaisdell

The CVCHS choirs will be performing their winter concert on Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Concord United Methodist Church. Admission is $5 for students and $10 for the general public.

The Women’s Ensemble will be performing a set of art songs and a set of holiday carols that they’ve been performing at the Countrywood shopping center to raise money for the choir tour in the spring. The Show Choir will be performing two pieces, with dance choreographed by Addison Grimesey, the dance captain. Concert Choir and Advanced Concert Choir are combining to perform a set of holiday art music.

“I think it’s the first time for the students and the parents that they get into the space,” Elizabeth Emigh, the choir director, said. “They're all dressed up, they’ve prepared. They perform and something magical happens. They realize that it’s gone from notes on the page into art and that they are creative artists. It’s more than art because there’s emotion behind it and the audience feels that and realizes that their child is part of something very special.”

Arwen Singh, a member of Women’s Ensemble, expressed a little uncertainty for the concert.

“I’m a little anxious about the concert given that we only have one of our four songs fully memorized, and they’re all really long and difficult,” Singh said. “We seem to pull it all together at the last minute though so I’m holding out for that.

“I love being in choir because I love music. And the community is really supportive and welcoming. Having a period where I can get away from all the academic stress and sing with my friends is so valuable to me.”

Emigh highlighted how she looks at music in her choirs.

“I feel like music is so much more than just a classroom thing. We’re a family and unless we make that bonding and really connect, we can’t connect and make good music together.”
