Athletes need treatment available at every sport game. Sports medicine ensures that every athlete has access to treatment at every sport game you’ve ever been to. When athletes get injured, the sports medicine team treats them and helps them recover. Here on the Clayton Valley campus we have many clubs, including the Sports Medicine Club. This club has been running for multiple years and is a great club to learn more about Sports Medicine.

“People should join the sports medicine club because it’s fun and it introduces you to the class. I think it is a good club to get introduced to useful concepts,” says senior Chase Kennerly, who is president of the club.

This club is meant as a hands-on introduction to Sports Medicine to get others at school involved. For those in the club that want to learn more about Sports Med, they can take the class with Annie Martin.

Every second Tuesday of the month, the club meets in D2. This is where this hands-on focused club shares a little bit about a different topic each month.

Kennerly shares that his favorite meeting of the year was “the first ankle day where we showed how to wrap ankles.”

Senior Mia Poms, the Social Media Coordinator of the club, says her favorite meeting “was lower leg extremities day, showing Chase and Kate with the lower extremity hip flexors laying on their back.”

Throughout these many different meetings over the year, students have been able to engage with each other while learning about the art of sports medicine. Recently, club officers have changed in preparation for next year, so don’t forget to check out the club next year with the new leadership.

Poms says she “would have liked to see a field trip and stoles or cords for graduation” for the future year of the club.

Stay tuned to the club to see if the new leadership team makes that happen next year.

Many people that take the sports medicine class join the club because they love how the class runs.

Kennerly decided to run as a club officer for the 2022-2023 school year and became treasurer. He liked how interactive the club was that he wanted to continue to be involved to keep that interactive culture going.

“Anyone who is interested in the kinetics of the human body would be really interested in sports med,” says Poms.

If you love learning how the body works, take a visit to the sports med club in D2, or check out their instagram @cv_sportsmed.
